2022 AFL PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Laura Loucks from Tagai State College - Badu Island Campus won the 2022 AFL Primary School Teacher of the Year award for her outstanding commitment to young people from the Torres Strait in providing them with opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

Laura says: "The service and delivery provided by the AFL on country has so many impacts both at a school and community level. I was pleased to note the AFL's new approach in providing teachers with resources to support their delivery of AFL, particularly for teachers who may not be familiar with the game and how wonderful it is. I would encourage all teachers to register for the AFL Schools membership program so that they can receive the latest information and support in embedding AFL in their own school communities".

2022 AFL SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR

Tim Hunter from Denison College - Bathurst High Campus won the 2022 AFL Secondary School Teacher of the Year award for his leadership and advocacy of the Central West's High School AFL gala days which has seen a number of new schools participate for the first time.

Tim says "I am pleased with the approach the AFL has taken to supporting participation in AFL across all schools, I am particularly happy to see that the AFL is committed to providing professional development opportunities to teachers to assist them in developing their ability to implement AFL programs within the curriculum. As a teacher who is very familiar with AFL, I am keen to continue my own knowledge and best practice in delivering AFL programming and skill support to my students. The AFL Schools membership program looks like a great way to keep up to date with the professional learning opportunities that are available. I also believe that the continual presence and support that is provided by the AFL within schools will continue to be a vital aspect of growing and promoting our great game in locations that compete for participation with other codes. The sport of AFL is the best game we can offer young people – I can’t wait to see it continue to grow within the school environment and the opportunities it will provide our students in the Central West"
