Women & Girls in Coaching

Throughout the month of July, we’re celebrating the wonderful women in coaching!
READ STORIES OF WOMEN IN COACHING
Over the course of July, the football community is invited to participate in Women’s Coaching Month and join AFLW and State League coaches, plus other industry experts as part of three-part webinar series. Plus, a range of new community resources for clubs and coaches to support women in coaching, as well as coaches of women & girls will also be made available and women involved in footy can participate in a survey about women in coaching plus much more!

BE PART OF THE CHANGE

Participation in women’s and girls football has grown significantly since the birth of AFLW, but there’s still work to be done in the coaching community. From community level, through the talent pathway and all the way up to AFLW there are women kicking goals in coaching, but we need to do more.

As part of Women’s Coaching Month, the AFL will be conducting a 3-part Community Webinar series to showcase some of the inspiring women coaches across our game as well as other industry experts who have created best practice programs and resources to support coaches of women and girls.

Recruiting & Retaining Women Coaches Tool Kit

It is important that there are strong women role models in our sport, both on and off the field. To develop these role models, we need to provide opportunities for growth, development, and leadership. The purpose of this guide is to support clubs in;
- Promoting coaching opportunities to women & girls;
- Provide ongoing coaching development opportunities; and
- Recruiting the right people to support their teams.

The purpose of this guide is to support coaches of Women’s & Girls’ football teams at all levels. As such it focuses on general principles relevant to varying skills and abilities. It has been designed to offer coaches practical ideas and strategies that they can implement at their Club, School or Auskick Centre.

You are invited to submit stories via the link below including a summary of the coach along with a photo or video. We then aim to share these stories amongst our coaching and community football network.

2021 BHP Community Coach of the Year Award

Recognising the outstanding performance and contribution community coaches make to progressing women’s football and shaping their local community.
Nominations are now open for the award which can be given to any current community level coach, from junior and youth girls through to senior women’s football, who has current coaching accreditation and demonstrated exceptional support of women’s football and gender equality. The winner receives a mentoring session for the recipient’s club with AFLW coaches and players together with VIP tickets to attend the 2022 AFLW Awards.
